A dog wandering a New Hampshire highway led authorities to its injured owners, who had been ejected from a vehicle before it crashed.

The 1-year-old German Shepard named Tinsley was found running on the interstate's Memorial Bridge that connects Lebanon and White River Junction around 10 p.m. Monday.

Initially, state troopers and Lebanon police tried to capture the dog. But, it evaded them and ran toward a damaged guard rail on the side of the road.

"Almost alerting them to what was off the roadway, which they discovered a truck which had been overturned with two gentlemen that were ejected from the vehicle," said Lt. Daniel Baldassarre of New Hampshire State Police to KXAS-TV.

At the crash site, police found two men including the dog’s owner, Cam Laundry. Both the men sustained severe injuries and were suffering from hypothermia, the New York Post reported.

Hartford paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately treated the two men injured in the accident. They credited the dog for the quick rescue.

"The whole time we were starting our patient care it sat there nice and calm right next to its owner," said Captain Jack Hedges of Hartford Fire Department to KXAS-TV.

The dog was in the truck at the time of the crash but did not sustain any injury. Both the men were taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and released after treatment.

Following the crash, Laundry said the dog was his "little guardian angel."

"It’s a miracle that she had that kind of intelligence to do what she did," Laundry said to the outlet. He plans to show his gratitude to the pooch with a burger and plenty of back rubs.

A multi-team unit including the NHSP Troopers, Lebanon Police and Fire Department and the Hartford, Vermont Police and Fire Department assisted at the crash site. The accident is being investigated by the Vermont State Police.

In another incident, a dog in Iowa heroically rescued its owners from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning by waking them up. The pooch reportedly jumped on and off the bed of its owner until he woke up and heard the CO alarm.
