'The Dog Lover's Guide To Dating' Hallmark Movie Premiere: Trailer, Synopsis, Cast
Christmas has come and gone, and we've officially popped the champagne to usher in a New Year—and so has Hallmark, with their January "New Year, New Movies" event. Kicking off the festivities, and the new slate of films coming in 2022, is "The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating," starring Corey Sevier and Rebecca Dalton.
Fans will certainly recognize both stars, as they are no strangers to Hallmark fans—though this will be their first project together on the network. Fans will definitely recognize Sevier, who has starred in "Northern Lights of Christmas," "Heart of the Holidays," "Road Trip Romance," "Pumpkin Everything" and "Noel Next Door." He has also starred in several lifetime movies, including "Grounded for Christmas," "Matchmaker Christmas," "It Takes A Christmas Village" and "Christmas on Mistletoe Lake." He also appeared in UpTV's "Love in Translation" and "Love in Whitbrooke."
Dalton, meanwhile, is known to Hallmarkies for her role as Tara Russell on "The Good Witch." In addition, she starred in "Santa Squad" on Lifetime and UpTV's "Christmas in Paris," "A Honeymoon to Remember" and "A Tiny Home Christmas."
Eliza King ("SurrealEstate") also stars.
So what can fans expect from the first new film of the new year? Let's find out.
"Alex (Dalton), a professional dog trainer is more enamored of her loyal four-legged clients than she is of their owners whom she never fully trusts. Her skepticism of a dog's two-legged best friend makes for a difficult, or rather nonexistent, dating life for Alex," a synopsis for the film reads. "Simon (Sevier) has the opposite problem. He's found the girl of his dreams; he just needs to win over her dog so they can live happily ever after. When he discovers Alex's impeccable dog training skills, he convinces her to train him in the ways o the canine so he can show his girlfriend, Chloe (King), and her beloved pug what a fun-loving pack leader he can be."
Alex reluctantly agrees to help Simon out, even though she's pretty sure he's a lost cause and she has other things she needs to deal with.
"Alex's focus is split as she has bigger problems and needs to raise enough money to save the local animal shelter," the synopsis continues. "Simon jumps into action, eager to show off his marketing skills to Alex. She may know dogs, but he understands people and knows how to get their support. Together, they throw a fundraising event in hopes of saving the shelter."
As they spend time together and begin to work more closely on their pursuits, both begin to realize they may have been thinking about love the wrong way.
"As they spend more time together, Simon realizes he's been barking up the wrong tree this whole time and he's been surprisingly falling for Alex all along," the synopsis concludes. "Will their fundraiser be enough to keep the shelter open? And will Alex let Simon melt her heart with their new bond over their cold-nosed furry friends?"
"The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating" premieres Sunday, Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. EST on Hallmark Channel.
