Dog Mauls Man Trying To Protect His Own Pet During Walk

A Staffordshire bull terrier mauled a man when he was trying to protect his own pet during a brutal attack. The incident took place in Northumbria in the United Kingdom.

The man, identified as Raymond Hutcheon, told local media that he had to undergo surgery on his hand after the attack. The attack occurred earlier this month but details about the incident were revealed Sunday. According to the victim, the owner of the bull terrier threatened him after the brutal attack.

Hutcheon also said that he contacted local police, who told him they "didn't seem to want to know" and told him they wouldn't normally get involved in a "dog-on-dog" attack. His wife Susan said she has "lost all faith in the police" after the response.

However, Northumbria Police said they were investigating the incident.

Hutcheon was walking his five-year-old cocker spaniel Willi on the day of the attack in a park near his Sunderland home.

"It was a horrible experience. Everything happened so quickly," he said. "I had literally just got into the entrance of the park, I had let him off the lead, this Staffordshire bull terrier appeared, it locked straight onto my dog, poor Willi was screeching."

"I had to intervene, I couldn't let my dog get torn to bits. Then it decided to leave my dog and latch on to my hand. The owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier managed to have his dog released from me and hold it its collar. I shouted 'you need to have that dog muzzled, it’s a dangerous dog'... My dog was pouring with blood, I was pouring with blood, my only thought was to get out and get to the hospital," the 58-year-old electrical supervisor added.
