Dog Owner Drives Off With Pet After Canine Viciously Bites People, Arrested Following Long Chase
A woman was arrested and her pet dog was seized after the canine attacked two people and another canine at a park in Pineville, North Carolina, on Monday.
Speaking to local media, Abryana Heggins said she was at the park with a friend and their pets when a “very large dog” began attacking a husky.
Recalling the incident, she said, "At first, he grabbed the husky by the back of its neck and then, grabbed its tail and started shaking its head aggressively.”
Heggins and her friend, Jaylen, then rushed to their pets to get them out of the park. Suddenly, she felt “pressure on her arm.”
"I just ended up being dragged across the ground by the dog, and he started shaking and locked onto my arm and there's people yelling, and she's yelling and Jaylen is trying to rip the dog off my arm," Heggins said, adding that Jaylen fought with the canine until police arrived at the scene.
The officers informed the dog’s owner, identified as Terilyn Jackson, that they needed to seize her pet. She immediately took the animal and drove off. This led to a chase for miles as Jackson refused to stop. Almost six miles later, she was taken into custody.
"I could have been an 8-year-old or a child and that would be worse than what I got or Jaylen," Heggins said, adding that her friend suffered several bites in the attack.
Meanwhile, the canine was quarantined while police looked into its background before deciding if the dog should be euthanized. The condition of the husky was not known.
