Dog Owner Viciously Attacked By 'Threatening' Pets, Critically Injured
A woman was in critical condition after she was viciously mauled by her two pet American Pit Bull Terriers in Fort Washington, Maryland, on Wednesday night.
The Prince George’s Country police responded to a call from the neighbors in the area who reported hearing a woman screaming from inside her house. Officers arrived at the scene and found the unnamed woman severely injured.
“The young lady who was attacked by the dogs was the owner of the dogs,” said Rodney Taylor, chief of the Prince George’s Country Animal Services Division.
Adewole Ogundepo, who lives across the street where the incident occurred, said he had encountered the canines earlier in the week and they seemed threatening and dangerous.
“These two dogs approached me and tried to charge me,” said Ogundepo. “I grabbed a stick and I fended them off.”
He said the incident upset him so much that he had visited the owner’s house and told her that she needed to put a leash on her dogs.
Meanwhile, one of the dogs was shot dead by the police after it had lunged at them. The other was taken into custody.
Taylor stated that the dog taken into custody had initially run away from the scene. Officers had initiated a search in the area to find the missing canine, which later returned to the scene on its own.
“My officer was able to pick the dog up and bring it in without any trouble. It does not seem to be vicious at this time," Taylor said.
According to reports, a third canine was also seized from the house, however, it was a puppy and was not involved in the gruesome attack.
