Dog Poop Smellers Wanted: A Stinky Job That Pays $6,000
Dog owners are wanted for a job that some may turn their noses up, but the more than $6,000 pay offer may have others taking another sniff.
British plant-based pet food company Omni is offering up more than $6,000 to pet owners who will get intimate with their dog’s poop by smelling it.
The company is looking to get feedback on dogs’ digestion, energy levels, and overall health when they switch to a flexitarian or plant-based diet. Omni said it wants to test the effects of a plant-based diet on dogs’ digestion, stool odor, and general health.
Omni wants to debunk the negative misconceptions that people have about feeding their dogs plant-based diets and believes by finding people to smell their poop is the perfect opportunity to do so.
Through an analysis of dogs’ diet, the pet food company thinks it can prove the benefit of plant-based diets on canines’ digestive and general health.
To land the poop smeller job, Omni is asking the dog owner to record their experience of introducing a plant-based diet to their pup. They must monitor their dog’s bowel movements, stool odor, health, energy levels, behavior, sleep pattern, and physical attributes during the testing phase, which will last two months.
The owner’s dog will need to receive a general exam from a registered vet to assess how the plant-based diet transition has impacted their digestion and health from the start of the study to the end of the trial, Omni said.
The lucky stool smeller will receive about $6,000 for the two-month position, in addition to payment for all food expenses for the diet change, as well as support from a dog nutritionist to ensure the diet change is done properly.
Omni said the chosen poop smeller’s dog will also receive a supply of sustainable dog toys and vegan treats to ensure they are “happy between meals.”
All applicants that want to apply need to be 18 or older and own a dog that eats a non-plant-based diet currently. Job candidates can apply here until March 31. Omni said it looking to hire someone in early April.
“We know that this is quite a peculiar vacancy but we also know that this is the way for us to put our money where our mouth is and show dog owners that plant-based dog food could improve their dog’s stool, general health and digestive health,” Shiv Sivakumar, dog lover and co-founder of Omni, said in a statement.
