Dog-Shaped Trump Statue Features In Chinese New Year Of The Dog Celebrations
A Chinese mall, which rang in the Chinese New Year and the “The Year Of The Rooster” in 2016 with a 36-foot-tall Trump-like rooster statue, took a dig at the president of the United States again.
FashionWalk, a shopping mall located in downtown Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, China, erected a Trump-inspired dog statue at its entrance to ring in the Lunar New Year in February 2018.
The statue not only had Trump’s signature hairdo and golden eyebrow but also had its index finger pointing upward, a pose frequented by the POTUS during the U.S. presidential debates.

Trump’s dog statue corresponds with 2018 being the year of the dog, according to the Chinese Zodiac. As per a report in BrinkWire.com, China will start celebrating “the year of the Dog” in February 2018. According to a website called Chinahighlights.com, “Zodiac year, or Ben Ming Nian, is any year of your Chinese zodiac animal sign, determined by your birth year. As there are 12 animal signs, a year of your birth sign comes once per 12-year-cycle: when you are (about) 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, and so on.”
Zodiac year starts from Chinese New Year and ends on the last day of the Chinese lunar year (Chinese New Year's Eve). For example, 2018 is a year of the Dog, and Dogs' zodiac year starts from Chinese New Year 2018 (Feb. 16) and ends on Feb. 4, 2019.
Trump, 71, was born in 1946, which was the year of the dog. The Chinese New year or the Lunar New year is celebrated based on lunar-solar Chinese calendar and its corresponding zodiac animal. Reports also stated if China continued with these traditions of turning Trump into a Zodiac cartoon, he would be depicted as a pig in 2019 and a rat in 2020. Although the statue is in hopes of garnering some international attention, the Chinese culture believes it is considered bad luck if the animal of the current year is the same as the year you were born in.
According to a report in the Hill, Trump blasted China for manipulating the currency in addition to criticizing their trade practices while he was campaigning during the presidential elections. However, Trump and first lady, Melania Trump were reportedly treated like royals on their first official visit to China. It was reported the president of China, Xi Jinping, also treated the POTUS and the first lady to a rare dinner at the Forbidden City, an honor that was not given to a foreign leader since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 68 years ago.
Trump was the first U.S. president portrayed as a zodiac animal.
