Dog ‘Viciously’ Attacks 71-Year-Old Woman, Victim Hospitalized, Pet Owner Sought
An elderly woman who was walking her dog in a local park in Ontario, Canada, was attacked by another dog, Tuesday. The owner of the dog, which attacked the victim, fled from the scene, leaving the 71-year-old woman bleeding at the spot.
“This is not ok! A women left another women wounded and bleeding because her savage dog attacked her and she ran away like a coward! Of course when you need it the most there was no one there filming the incident but we need help finding this person,” Morgan Foley, a family friend of the victim, wrote on Facebook.
According to the information shared, the incident took place around 9:30 a.m. EDT. The victim was “viciously” attacked by a German shepherd mix, which was being walked by a woman of “Indian decent in her 40’s or 50’s.”
“Our 71-year-old family member has received 34 staples to her head, stitches to her leg and arm. She has a black eye and cuts on her face. This is a horrible situation that will have effects on her quality of life as she is in for a long recovery. What is even more unfathomable is that the owner of this dog took the dog and ran away leaving our family member in the park bleeding alone,” Foley said.
The accused dog owner had allegedly been warned by people before to not walk her pet without assistance since the canine had shown aggressive tendencies toward strangers and she lacked the capabilities to control it. The police were alerted and they were working with animal services to find the dog and owner.
“We are still trying to identify who this dog owner is and, obviously, locate that dog so I know there’s an active investigation by West Division investigators. We’re also working with Ajax bylaw as well, too, and we’re hoping to identify the person that was at the park,” said Const. George Tudos with the Durham Regional Police Service told Global News.
Public help was requested in locating the owner of the dog. In addition, the owner was urged to come forward with the medical records of the dog and take responsibility for the incident.
In another horrific dog attack earlier this month, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier "savaged" a man and a puppy at a pet store in Staffordshire, England. "I'm not sure if he was the puppy's owner," a person who was at the store at the time, said. "The store was very busy at the time. The counter blocked my view but plenty of other people saw it happen... Judging by the state of him, I think the man will have been taken to hospital."
