Police began an investigation after a few street dogs were found dead in Kota Kemuning, Malaysia, on Sunday.

Police said the incident came to light Sunday evening when a 49-year-old unidentified woman, who fed the dogs every day, found three of them dead, bleeding from their ears and noses. She was informed by a man that he had found two more dogs dead. The woman along with her friend buried the canine and filed a police complaint.

"She would come to the area daily to feed about 15 stray dogs there because she pitied them. She would drive about 6k.m. (4 miles) from her home to the area to feed them table scraps mixed with dog biscuits. However, when she did so on Sunday, she found three of them dead and was later told by a man in the area that he had also found two more dead dogs near the food court on Jalan Anggerik Mokara,” police said.

Though it was initially speculated that the canines were shot dead, police found no empty bullet casing in the area where the dogs were found.

"There were no witnesses and a guard at a nearby factory only claimed to have heard fireworks and said that it was always raining," police said.

The bodies of the dogs were sent for autopsy to find the cause of death.

"We are on the case so please do not speculate further about the incident," police said, adding that search was underway for the suspects.
