In a horrific incident, a three-month-old baby was mauled to death by stray dogs in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh early Tuesday. According to local media, the incident took place in Dayalpur village in the city of Saharanpur.

While details about the incident are yet to be revealed, local media outlet India Today reported that the dogs picked up the infant when the baby was sleeping in a courtyard. Hours later, the decapitated body of the child was found in the fields nearby. However, authorities were unable to locate the head of the child.

There have been several incidents in the past when residents reported about the menace created by stray dogs in the state and urged authorities to tackle the situation. Local media reported that dozens of children were fatally attacked by stray dogs last year in the Sitapur district, which is 280 miles from Saharanpur. The incidents forced residents to stop sending their children to school and stepping out of the houses.

Last week, a 3-year-old boy was mauled by several stray dogs in the city of Mathura. The child was reportedly playing in the street when he was attacked by five stray dogs. When the child began screaming, the boy's mother ran to his rescue. The child's father urged authorities to take necessary actions to avoid such unprovoked incidents.
