Donald Trump Jr criticized the dismissal of DUI charges against musician Bruce Springsteen, saying his 'liberal privilege' helped him.
"I’d say it’s #WhitePrivilege but we all know it’s really #LiberalPrivilege," tweeted Trump Jr to his 6.7 M followers.
The son of former president Donald Trump had published his second book 'Liberal Privilege' in 2020 which, according to him, "reveals the truth the media has long refused to cover."
Springsteen pleaded guilty Wednesday to drinking with fans at Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook in New Jersey but managed to evade charges of DUI and reckless driving. Federal prosecutors agreed to drop charges after Assistant US Attorney Adam Baker said the government would not be able to prove them.
"The evidence we reviewed indicates that after the defendant's arrest, he submitted to a breath test at the ranger station, and his BAC reading was .02, which as the court is aware is well under the legal limit of .08," Baker said.
I had two small shots of tequila,” Springsteen said during the virtual hearing before New Jersey Federal Court.
While sentencing Springsteen to pay a $500 fine plus $40 in court fees, Judge Anthony Mautone said, "I have in front of me the driver's abstract of this defendant, going all the way back to 1973. There's three violations in the whole abstract. In fact, two of them aren't even violations and the third one is use of a hand-held cell device. Rarely would you see a driver's abstract so devoid of any entries as I see before me, Mr. Springsteen."
Springsteen was charged after a park ranger caught him drinking with his fans on Nov. 14. On spotting the 71-year-old 'Born to Run' icon on a motorcycle, his fans had asked him to pull over. He then took pictures with them before taking a shot of liquor which a fan offered, all the while sitting on his stationary bike.
He was charged with DUI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area.
Springsteen, a lifelong Democrat and an ardent supporter of President Biden, had always been vocal about his opposition to Republicans.
Along with former president Barack Obama, Springsteen launched a podcast "Renegades: Born in the USA" on Spotify on Monday. Having met in 2008 on the campaign trail, Obama and Springsteen share a deep friendship.
