Donald Trump Is 'Crazy,' Says Republican Governor Before Referencing Serving In A Mental Institution
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu ripped into Donald Trump during the Gridiron Club’s spring dinner on Saturday night, calling the former president “f---ing crazy.”
The annual Washington event was attended by journalists, Republicans, and Democrats with the purpose of roasting elite politicians. While addressing the audience, Sununu, a Republican, shared his thoughts about Trump’s antics.
“The press often will ask me if I think Donald Trump is crazy. And I’ll say it this way: I don’t think he’s so crazy that you could put him in a mental institution. But I think if he were in one, he ain’t getting out,” he told the crowd.
Sununu also noted that Trump may run for president again, but quickly dismissed his chances of winning.
“You know, he’s probably going to be the next president. Nah. I’m just kidding: he’s f---ing crazy,” Sununu said.
Sununu went on to reflect on an encounter he had with Trump when the former president visited New Hampshire for a political rally. He revealed he greeted Trump upon his arrival at the airport and was invited to ride with him to the venue.
Sununu said Trump spent a majority of the ride talking about his poll numbers but stopped his rant to give attention to people along the motorcade.
Trump allegedly pointed out the people holding American flags and called them his fans. “I can’t help but notice the guy he pointed at -- the sign he’s holding says, ‘F--- Trump,’” Sununu said.
But Trump wasn’t the only person to get roasted during the evening. When Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo took the stage, she poked fun at Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.
“A month ago, during the State of the Union, I was the designated survivor. That’s a very strange situation. It’s mostly a formality. But still: If something terrible happens, you could suddenly become the president,” she said.
“That probably explains why Pete Buttigieg kept calling to ask if he could do it instead.”
Raimondo went on to reference a senior Minnesota senator.
“I know I shouldn’t pick on Pete. He’s a great guy, and he’s not even here to defend himself! I just owed Amy Klobuchar a favor,” she joked.
Raimondo also delivered a statement from the Biden administration to the audience. Although the sitting president usually attends the Gridiron Club’s event, Biden was visited Delaware over the weekend. He sent a video message in his absence.
