Donald Trump previously denied that Marla Maples was the reason why he and Ivana Trump divorced years ago.
Initial reports claimed that the POTUS decided to call it quits with Ivana after he met Maples. But during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the president of the United States said that his marriage to Ivana had no longer been working in the past three to four years before he met his second ex-wife.
“A great misconception is I left Ivana for Marla. Marla had nothing to do with it, but leaving my wife for another woman makes a better headline. Our marriage hadn’t been working for three or four years,” he said.
Trump said that his incredible success and the fact that he was able to turn everything that he touched into gold was one of the reasons why his first marriage failed. The POTUS also said that he had always been faithful to Ivana and loved her until they started working together.
During the latter part of their marriage, President Trump asked Ivana to take over the Trump Castle on top of being a mom to their three children. Whenever he would come home, he and his then-wife would talk business and numbers, but this wasn’t what he wanted to do.
“Ivana had a great softness that disappeared. She became an executive, not a wife,” he said.
Meanwhile, Trump described Maples very differently from Ivana. Trump called his second ex-wife as “everything beautiful.” He also said that it was just unfortunate that Maples fell in love with a married guy, but they were happy to be together.
“Our chemistry just works. I’m proud to say I’ve been totally monogamous. Marla’s easy to be with, cares about me, always there. Loyalty is everything to me. I’m completely loyal, I don’t understand disloyalty — why my father couldn’t understand how I could leave Ivana,” he said.
But just a few years later, the POTUS met Melania Trump, and the two started dating. In 2005, the couple tied the knot. During the early years of their relationship, the FLOTUS built a relationship with her husband’s ex-wife.
However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are close. But Maples and Melania have not spoken negatively about each other.
While promoting her book "Raising Trump," Ivana accused Maples of causing her divorce from the POTUS. The mom of three said that she has no problem with the FLOTUS because she didn't break up her marriage to the POTUS.
