Donald Trump 'Disrespected' Wife Melania With This ‘Incorrect’ Gesture; POTUS Unlike Obama

Donald Trump may have shown disrespect towards his wife Melania Trump during their recent family trip.

The first family was spotted arriving in Florida to spend the weekend at Mar-a-Lago. Many were surprised when Donald descended the airstair and left his wife Melania and son Barron on their own. He continued greeting the crowd and walking without looking back.

According to etiquette expert Jacqueline Whitmore the POTUS’ distance from his spouse is a sign of “disrespect.” She stressed that the traditional way is for a man to walk down just in front of a woman so he can catch her if she falls. However, the president was so far away from Melania.

“In the photographs, what we’re clearly seeing is that Donald Trump is walking not just one stair ahead, not two stairs ahead, but a few feet ahead. She’s not being accompanied by him,” Whitmore told The Huffington Post in 2017 when a similar thing happened.

“If you look at some of the old photos of Ronald and Nancy Reagan or the Obamas, they are very close together. In other words, they’re a unit, they’re a couple, they’re engaging in this activity together.”

Whitmore noted that in the Trumps’ photo, Melania is standing all by herself which is a sign of “self-absorption” and that he’s in a hurry. She advised the president to model a “different kind of behavior” because he is a role model for the country. He should treat his wife like how Obama treats Michelle.

Life and style etiquette expert Elaine Swann has the same observations as Whitmore. He found the POTUS’s gesture toward Melania “incorrect.”

“The husband at the bottom of the stairs, saluting and greeting the people there, and the wife is still at the top of the stairs – this is incorrect. The proper thing for him to do is to wait for his spouse at the bottom of the stairs and then take her hand and assist her down the last few steps as she comes down. This was not done,” Swann explained.

Swann also reminded the POTUS that he is a husband first before he became the president. Since Melania is his spouse, he should make sure to nurture their relationship.

However, not everyone agrees with this. One Twitter user said that Donald is a “gentleman” because he always lets Melania enter the Air Force One before him unlike Obama who runs in front of Michelle.
