Is Donald Trump Good At Golf? President's Swing Caught On Video
President Donald Trump spends so much golfing that you might have wondered whether he is actually good at the sport. Now, there’s video evidence to at least support an opinion regarding his prowess on the golf course.
Professional golfer P.J. Cowan recently shared a video of Trump’s golf swing on Instagram, TMZ discovered. The President might not exactly have perfect form, though the results are sometimes better than his swing looks.
Cowan was complimentary of Trump’s swing in the clip, and this isn't the first time an expert has positively criticized Trump's performance on the green.
“Trump's swing is imperfect but grooved, and it soon engenders a certainty that nothing really bad is going to happen to his golf ball,” Golf Digest’s Jaime Diaz, who golfed with Trump, wrote in 2017.
“He has a flat takeaway well to the inside and loads hard onto his right side. Before starting down, his shoulder plane raises into what at first looks like a duffer's over-the-top move. But Trump simultaneously unleashes the kind of aggressive opening of the left hip that is rarely seen in older amateurs, clearing the way for the club to release from an inside path.”
In a 2015 spread with Golf Digest, Trump even touted his own skills, saying he’s improved over the years.
“My putting has always been good. I don’t hit a lot of bad shots. Part of the beauty of golf is for me to be able to say at my age that I can be a better golfer than I was 20 years. And I think that’s a great thing for people to see. Because how many sports can you be better [at] as you get older?” he said.
Recorded scores for Trump’s participation in tournament play suggest he’s no slouch, though the President has been accused of cheating on the course.
As of Nov. 28, there was evidence that Trump golfed at least 146 times since his inauguration, according to data compiled by TrumpGolfCount.com. In contrast, former President Barack Obama played 333 rounds of golf during his eight years in office, according to former CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller.
