Donald Trump Is GOP’s Presidential Nominee In 2024 ‘If He Wants It’: Graham
KEY POINTS
- Lindsey Graham suggested Trump could win the election if he runs a 'disciplined campaign'
- Trump said he is unlikely to announce his 2024 bid until after the midterms
- A long list of Republicans could make a bid for the presidency in 2024
Former President Donald Trump could get the support of the Republican Party should he decide to run for the presidency again in 2024, a GOP senator suggested Wednesday.
During an appearance on “Hannity,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election would likely be given to Trump should he make a bid.
"Unless there's something coming out of left field I don't see coming, it's his nomination if he wants it. The Republican base appreciated him." Graham told guest host Pete Hegseth. "[Trump] will be in the White House in 2024 if he runs a disciplined campaign."
Graham also predicted that the former president could win the seat “if he runs a disciplined campaign” and added that he should remind Americans about his work on the southern border and in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
"I'm looking for an America-first agenda led by Donald Trump that we can run on as a team and point out the flaws of the Biden agenda," the South Carolina Republican said.
It is still unclear whether Trump plans to run for the nation’s top position again in 2024. However, he has repeatedly hinted that he could mount another bid for the Oval Office. While he has refused to offer any specifics about his plans, he has said that his supporters will be “very happy” with his decision.
He again teased a possible bid in his Thanksgiving statement, promising his supporters that “we will be great again.” His speech drew on his 2016 campaign slogan, “Make American Great Again.”
Trump is unlikely to make a campaign announcement anytime soon. In an interview with Fox News in early November, the former president said he plans to wait until after the 2022 midterm elections conclude before he makes any official announcement.
A long list of Republicans could potentially make a bid for the presidency in 2024, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Gov. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Gov. Larry Hogan, R-Md.
