Donald Trump's Elizabeth Warren Video Comment Angers Twitter Users
President Donald Trump incensed several Twitter users late Sunday with a racist tweet directed at Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who recently announced she would run for president of the United States in 2020.
Tweeting a video of the prominent Democratic politician who has said on several occasions she has partial Native American ancestry, Trump again referred to her as Pocahontas. In the video, originally posted on Instagram in December, Warren is seen sipping beer in her kitchen while introducing her husband to viewers. The event succeeded her presidential bid announcement.
The president said the video would have been a hit if she stuck to her ancestral heritage and did the streaming with her husband dressed in "Indian" clothes.
In another tweet a few minutes later, Trump said: "Best line in the Elizabeth Warren beer catastrophe is, to her husband, “Thank you for being here. I’m glad you’re here” It’s their house, he’s supposed to be there!
Many Twitter users felt the language used by Trump was racist and offensive.
Another one said, "Oh god. Here comes another round of every racist, general bigot, and liberal with their hot takes on Warren, Pocahontas, and what makes a real indian."
Some also said Twitter should remove Trump from its platform for what they felt is his frequent violation of the company's guidelines.
Some also alleged Trump's tweet was part of a strategy to divert attention from the Mueller probe, which is investigating potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
There were also some who ridiculed it as repetitive.
The president's followers, however, thought it was a great tweet.
This was far from the first instance of Trump directing racial slurs at his colleagues. Former White House advisor Omarosa Manigault Newman, who resigned from her post in January 2018, revealed he used the N-word often.
