'Donkey Kong Country,' Two More Games Headed For Nintendo Switch Online

Count Super Nintendo favorite “Donkey Kong Country” as the next game to be released on Nintendo Switch Online.

The immensely popular “Donkey Kong Country” was released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994 and served as a reboot of the “Donkey Kong” series. Created by British developer Rareware, it was one of the earliest examples of 3D graphics, thanks to its use of silicon graphics workstations.

“Donkey Kong Country” stars title character Donkey Kong and his sidekick Diddy Kong. The two travel across Donkey Kong Island to recover their Banana Hoard, stolen by the Kremlings and their leader, King K. Rool.

So popular was “Donkey Kong Country” that it was remade for the Game Boy Color in 2000 and the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It was then released on the Wii U's Virtual Console in 2014 and on the New Nintendo 3DS's Virtual Console in 2016.

Video Games Chronicle reports that “Donkey Kong Country” will be released on Nintendo Switch Online on July 15 in Europe and North America alongside fellow SNES title “Natsume Championship Wrestling” and NES entry “The Immortal.”

Created by Harvest Moon developer Natsume, “Natsume Championship Wrestling” was released in 1994 in North America, but never made it to Europe other than later Virtual Console versions. In this pro wrestling game, p layers must become either the Triple Crown Champion or the Triple Crown Tag Team Champions and achieve the limits of professional wrestling.

First released in 1990, “The Immortal” is an isometric action-adventure dark fantasy game originally published by Electronic Arts. In this game, you play a wizard who is attempting to find his mentor in a large and dangerous labyrinth while dealing with goblins and trolls.

Nintendo Switch Online launched in September 2018 and allows members to access a growing library of classic SNES and NES games, back up save data online, and receive special offers including free access to “Tetris 99.”

According to Video Games Chronicle, Nintendo recently reset free Switch Online trials for those who have already used one, granting them an additional seven days of free play. Nintendo Switch Online costs $3.99 for a one-month membership, $7.99 for a three-month membership, and $19.99 for a 12-month membership.
