  • Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell speaks up for the first time after VOCID-19 diagnosis
  • Mitchell is the second player in the league to test positive on the virus
  • He thanked all the people who wished him well after the news broke out

After Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for novel coronavirus, the team immediately decided to isolate themselves and get tested for a possible acquisition of the virus when they went to the dug-out. They all went to their locker rooms and the NBA suspended all its games at an indefinite time.

Hours later, it was reported that Jazz’ star guard Donovan Mitchell was the second player from the team – and in the league – who tested positive for COVID-19. The second-year guard was having a stellar season with the team but he might have to win a different battle as the season is still on hold.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and it was met by several reactions both by fellow players and the fans on social media.

The third-year Jazz player went to his Instagram account and confirmed the reports about his current health condition. On his post, the 23-year old Mitchell thanked all the people who wished him well after learning the news about him being infected by the virus.

“Thanks to everyone who has been reaching out since hearing the news about my positive test, said Mitchell. “We are all learning more about the seriousness of this situation and hopefully people can continue to educate themselves and realize that they need to behave responsibly both for their own health and for the well being of those around them.”

Their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder was canceled just before tip-off after learning that his teammate Gobert tested positive for coronavirus and he also thanked the staff at the Chesapeake Energy Arena for assisting them properly.

“I appreciate the authorities in Oklahoma who were helpful with the testing process and everyone from the (Utah Jazz) who have been so supportive,” said the first-time NBA All-Star. He also said that he will be following the doctor’s advice and also encouraged people to help one another in battling the pandemic.

Atlanta Hawks’ star Trae Young showed his support by reminding him what they’ve talked last night on his Instagram comment. “What I told you last night... I’m witchu brotha!!!”

Memphis Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson, Jr. and Jordan Bell, Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton, and Mitchell’s teammates Georges Niang and Jordan Clarkson, who tested negative from the disease, also showed their support for their brother in the team.
