'Don’t Get Too Arrogant,' Lampard Warns Liverpool, Opens Up About Fight With Klopp At Anfield

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has warned Liverpool FC to not get "too arrogant" after he was involved in a heated row with The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp during their Premier League fixture at Anfield on Wednesday, July 22.

Lampard was annoyed when Liverpool were handed a free kick in the first half, which was brutally converted into a stunning goal by Trent Alexander-Arnold, while the former player was also unhappy with Liverpool dugout’s behavior.

During a post-match interview, Lampard was asked about the foul and his argument with Klopp at the touchline. The former Chelsea midfielder said, "For me, it wasn’t a foul from Kovacic, and there were a lot of things that were ongoing. And on the bench, no, I’ve got no problem with Jurgen Klopp. He’s managed this team and it’s fantastic. Some of the bench, it’s a fine line between when you’re winning – and they’ve won the league, fair play to Liverpool football club. But also, don’t get too arrogant with it. That was my thing. But done. That’s it. It matters when you get emotional and that was it."

The incident took place during Liverpool’s 5-3 victory over the Blues at Anfield but Lampard termed the game "extraordinary".

"It was extraordinary. Even when you say they threatened to run away with it, I thought we were in it because I could feel the way we were playing. In the first half, in terms of football, in the game, we were in it. It was a turnover and a great strike, a non-foul that goes in the top corner and then terrible from us in defending a corner. But other than that, in match play, we were alright. So, the goal gave us hope and the lads showed great character," added Lampard in the same interview.

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita opened the scoring in the match at the 27th minute before Alexdar-Arnold made it 2-0 with the free-kick. Georginio Wijnaldum netted Liverpool’s third and just before the half-time whistle, Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud scored his side’s first goal.

Soon after the second half began, Roberto Firmino, who had not scored at Anfield this season in the Premier League, finally broke the home jinx as he found the back of the net at the 55th minute. Six minutes later, Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham made the scoreline 4-2. The U.S.' 21-year-old forward Christian Pulisic scored next to bring Chelsea right back into the game at 4-3. However, substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sealed the game for Liverpool at the 84th minute and Liverpool ended up holding on to their lead of 5-3.

Since it was their last home match of the Premier League season, the champions lifted the coveted trophy in a grand ceremony, marking the 30-year wait’s end to witness that moment.
