KEY POINTS
- "Dota: Dragon's Blood" will release on March 25 on Netflix
- The show will feature "adult-oriented" content
- "Dragon's Blood" will follow the story of Dragon Knight Davion and Mirana, the Princess of the Moon
In a power move from Valve, the global MOBA sensation “Dota 2” will soon have its own animated series called “Dota: Dragon’s Blood,” which premieres on Netflix on March 25.
“Dragon’s Blood” will be a fantasy series starring Davion, the Dragon Knight, one of the many playable characters from “Dota 2,” according to Netflix. The series will follow Davion’s story as he gets dragged into a series of events involving an ancient eldwurm and Princess Mirana, another member of the game’s roster of characters.
Studio MIR, the studio who worked on Nickelodeon’s “The Legend of Korra,” will be animating “Dragon’s Blood,” while Ashley Edward Miller will serve as the show’s executive producer, The Verge reported.
“Fans will love how we’ve imagined the 'DOTA 2' universe and woven together an epic, emotional and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters,” Miller said during an interview with Deadline.
He also described the overall production quality to be “next level” and thanked Valve for the creative freedom that they were granted.
Netflix has also released a short announcement trailer for the series, showing Davion fighting off a dragon by the countryside.
The official Twitter account for “Dota 2” has also made a formal announcement.
The announcement came as a pleasant surprise to fans of the game, with many expressing excitement for the series’ release.
“Dragon’s Blood” draws some similarities with other animated shows produced by Netflix, with the most notable one being “Castlevania” in terms of art style and animation quality.
“Dota 2” isn’t the only MOBA game that will be receiving an animated adaptation. In 2019, Riot Games announced “Arcane,” a League of Legends animated series set in the world of Runeterra. “Arcane” was originally slated for a 2020 release, but complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic forced Riot to push the release date to 2021.
So far, there is no other information regarding the brunt of “Dragon’s Blood’s” plot or if any more of the game’s characters will be featured. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long before it officially becomes available to watch.
