A man from California who was on a vacation in Zihuatanejo resort in the hotel zone of Ixtapa on Mexico’s Pacific Coast was shot to death Thursday.

Dough Bradley, a native of Huntington Beach, was killed a day before his 50th birthday. Bradley lived in Playas de Tijuana, California, and was unmarried.

He started working as the administrative services director of the city of Imperial Beach, San Diego, in 2013 and supervised the budget and fiscal functions of the city. He had also served as the treasurer of the city.

According to a report in the Fox News, Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina said, “Dough Bradley was loved by all that knew him.” Dedina added, “He was always positive, loved to surf, and had helped to turn around the City of Imperial Beach’s financial management as well as restructure city administration to make it more efficient and resident-friendly.”

He described Bradley as a “wonderful person and world-traveling surfer,” San Diego Union Tribune reported.

Dedina said, “He was brilliant at his job. He was always positive. You couldn’t have asked for a better person to work with.”

Mourning the death of the administrative director, Dedina tweeted, “He will be missed. He was a force for transparency and resident.” He said Bradley was a "true border resident."

According to witnesses, the gunmen followed Bradley and shot him to death. They used a 9mm handgun to kill the finance director in the wee hours of Thursday. However, no one informed the police for at least four hours. Later when the police reported to the spot, they found Bradley lying dead in the parking lot, reported the Mexico News Daily.

The mayor informed that the administration was in talks with the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City and the U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana so that Bradley’s body could be brought back home.

According to various reports, just an hour before Bradley was killed, a gunman had shot dead Arturo Gomez Perez, the mayor of Petatlán, located less than an hour south of Ixtapa. Earlier, a comedy show was cancelled at the Krystal Ixtapa hotel when gangsters targeted one of the performers of the show for $2,500.

According to the Associated Press report, Ixtapa is situated in Guerrero and this place has been one of the most violent states in Mexico in the first 11 months of 2017. The homicide rate here was 58.6 per 100,000 people. Since 2006, at least 54 mayors or mayors-elect have been killed in Mexico, it added.
