Dove Cameron Gets Her Childhood Wish To Star In 'Powerpuff Girls' Live-Action Reboot
"The Powerpuff Girls” live-action pilot on the CW has officially cast the roles of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup.
"The Powerpuff Girls" was a superhero animated series the debuted on the Cartoon Network in 1998. The show involves three young girls with superpowers.
Actress Dove Cameron, who will play Bubbles, said he has been waiting for this moment since 2013.
Cameron, 25, had lobbied for the role on Twitter as a teenager. Not only did she land the role, she could potentially be part of a long-running series.
Cameron rose to prominence for her starring role in the Disney Channel comedy series "Liv and Maddie."
There have been limited details released about "Powerpuff Girls," but the live-action show will portray the girls as adults in their 20s.
The character Bubbles, the blue Powerpuff Girl, was sweet and innocent as a child. Now that she’s an adult, she’s tougher and has a wittiness about her, according to Variety. She also is more interested in the spotlight than saving the world with her sisters.
Blossom and Buttercup will be played by Chloe Bennet and Yana Perrault, respectively.
Bennet, 28, and Cameron both had roles on Marvel’s “Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
The character Blossom is the unspoken leader of the pack and is consistently upbeat and outgoing. As an adult, she’s picked up some anxiety and closedness due to childhood trauma, you know, fighting crime and everything.
The Buttercup character causes trouble and gives attitude, and also had some grunge traits. Unlike her sisters, viewers will see her hide her Powerpuff Girl self from the public as an adult.
Maggie Kiley, who produced "Dirty John" and "Riverdale," serves as the director and executive producer. The writers are Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier.
