‘Downton Abbey’ Season 6 Spoilers: Will Mary Find Love In The Final Season? Michelle Dockery Hints At Troubled Romance

“Downton Abbey” only has nine episodes left, which doesn’t leave much time for Lady Mary to fall in love. However, actress Michelle Dockery recently teased that her character might find an adequate suitor before the final season is over.

She was asked about Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) as a potential love interest, and the actress didn’t deny there was a spark. “There definitely is a chemistry between him and Lady Mary,” she told “This Morning” (via the Mirror). “At the moment it's looking good but we will have to see.”

Henry was introduced in the “Downton Abbey” Christmas special last year. Mary was a bit rude to him at first because he was an uninvited guest, but she warmed up to him at the end of the episode. “The Good Wife” actor will reprise the role in Season 6, but he might not necessarily develop a great relationship with the widow.

“What appears to be a good relationship for Mary, seemingly moving in the right direction, takes a cruel turn that sends Mary to a dark place again,” Dockery teased to Metro.

However, Henry isn’t going to be the only man in Mary’s life. “Mary is never short of a suitor,” Dockery teased to “This Morning.” “There could be one or two more around.”

Executive producer Gareth Neame previously revealed that Mary was dating around in the final season. “To use modern parlance, she's gone on a few dates, but that's inconclusive,” Neame told TV Guide in August. “I'm interested in exploring this territory because she's older than she was in the early seasons and she's been married and she's a widow. For anyone who's been divorced or widowed, entering into a second marriage is so much more complicated than an initial relationship. It's much more complicated.”

Mary hasn’t shown much interest in marriage since her first husband, Matthew (Dan Stevens), died in a tragic car accident in Season 3. The final season of “Downton Abbey” will reveal if Mary will ever truly love another man.
