Dr. Anthony Fauci can now add cover model to his impressive resume after gracing Instyle Magazine’s September issue.
The expert on infectious diseases welcomed photographer Frankie Alduino to his home in July for the cover. For the cover photo, Fauci wore a button-down shirt, black pants, brown leather shoes, and dark sunglasses, New York Post reported.
The photoshoot for the glossy magazine happened at the poolside. He also invited Norah O’Donnell for an interview that will be featured in the issue.
Among the things that Dr. Fauci and O’Donnell talked during the interview was his 35-year career at the National Institutes of Health. O’Donnell asked Fauci how long he could see himself working at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). To this, Fauci gave a confident reply. He said he will still be part of the agency in the coming years.
“I don’t see any termination within the near future because I judge [my career] by my energy and my effectiveness,” he said.
“And right now, with all due modesty, I think I’m pretty effective. I certainly am energetic. And I think everybody thinks I’m doing more than an outstanding job. I have a wife with incredibly good judgment, who will probably give me the signal when it’s time to step down. But I don’t think we’re anywhere near that right now.”
The American physician is already 79 years old. When asked how he keeps himself healthy, he admitted that he makes exercise a “significant part of my regimen.”
“Christine and I put in 3½ miles of power walking every day,” he said about his and his wife’s routine.
“I used to say ‘run,’ but I don’t run very much anymore because at the end of the run, various parts of my body hurt so much. Power walking is very enjoyable and relaxing, and we look forward to it. I must say, Chris is always ahead of me because she’s faster and in better shape.”
Fauci has advised six U.S. presidents on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In 2008, President George W. Bush acknowledged his efforts and awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
