  • Immunologist and physician Dr. Anthony Fauci was recently portrayed by Brad Pitt on "Saturday Night Live's" "At Home" episode
  • The 79-year-old director of the NAIAD had previously joked about how he wanted Pitt to portray him on TV
  • Fauci also shared that he is a great fan of Pitt and said the Hollywood actor's spoof portrayal was a great job

Brad Pitt’s lighthearted portrayal of Dr. Anthony Fauci was praised by the immunologist and physician.

Fauci, 79, was recently interviewed by CNN and quipped that if ever he gets portrayed on TV, he would want Brad Pitt to do it. Consequently, the Hollywood actor made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” dressed as the physician during the show’s “At Home” episode. Pitt has reportedly never acted on the show, according to The Washington Post.

On the "SNL" episode, Pitt donned suit that resembled Fauci’s usual attire. The actor put on a gray wig and matching glasses that completed the whole look. Pitt began the show’s teaser sequence by introducing himself as Fauci while replicating the physician’s husky voice.

“Now, there’s been a lot of misinformation out there about the virus,” Pitt-as-Fauci stated. “Yes, the president has taken some liberties with our guidelines. So tonight, I would like to explain what the president was trying to say.”

Then, a short clip of President Trump saying that “anybody who needs a test, gets a test” and stating that the tests are beautiful was shown.

Pitt went on to point out several confusing statements that the president imparted in various White House COVID-19 task force briefings. In an attempt to prod Trump’s dealings with the pandemic, Pitt’s Fauci jeered at the president’s comments about ultraviolet light and him promoting disinfectant injections as a treatment to the virus. He also responded to Trump’s claim that the virus will “disappear one day like a miracle.”

“A miracle would be great. Who doesn’t love miracles? But miracles shouldn’t be Plan A. Even Sully tried to land at the airport first,” Pitt’s Fauci said.

And during an interview on Monday (April 27) on Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Dia” to discuss concerns about the current coronavirus pandemic, the appointed director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was asked regarding his thoughts on Pitt’s spoofed portrayal of him on the show, CNN reported. According to the physician, he was not only amused but was also impressed with the actor’s characterization.

"I think he did great," Fauci stated. "I mean, I'm a great fan of Brad Pitt, and that's the reason why when people ask me who'd I like to play me, I mention Brad Pitt because he's one of my favorite actors. I think he did a great job."
