March 2, 2014, marks Dr. Seuss’ 110th birthday! The famous children’s author, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, was born in 1904, and more than 20 years after his passing, his stories are still entertaining and teaching millions of children through his unforgettable characters and quotable rhymes.

Here’s a quick fun fact about the writer: His middle name was Seuss and he wasn’t a medical doctor. “Dr. Seuss” was just a pen name. Earlymoments.com reported the author wrote “Green Eggs and Ham” on a dare. His publishers dared him that he couldn’t write a book using only 50 different words.

To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we’ve provided some of his most beloved quotes below, courtesy of Parade:
