Drake Offers Humorous Response After Being Booed Off Stage
Canadian rapper Drake was booed off stage at Camp Flog Gnaw Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend following a nine-song performance. He later joked about the event on Instagram.
During the performance, audience members weren’t all so pleased with his appearance. Drake picked up on the mixed crowd and decided to ask the audience directly: “If you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight,” which is when the booing began. In response to the booing, Drake said one last thing before walking off stage: “It's been love. I love y'all. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me."
According to ET Online, one witness said that the upset audience members were waiting to see Frank Ocean who they thought was the last artist of the night, not Drake. "It was never clear that Drake was the final artist last night, and he came out acting like he was only supposed to play a few songs," the eventgoer explained. "So the only time he got booed was when he kept asking if we wanted to hear more songs…”
Camp Flog Gnaw is a small music festival created by Tyler, the Creator. Following Drake's criticized appearance, he shared some words about the event, writing on Twitter, "I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE [expletive] PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE! BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW.”
In another tweet, he described it as a “mob mentality” and like “cancel culture in real life.” After all this drama, Tyler, the Creator changed his Twitter bio to “embarrassed by fans right now.”
Despite his tweets, Tyler, the Creator has since made quips about the incident, calling it "lowkey funny" and saying, "HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GOOD TIME."
Drake also joked about the incident, writing on Instagram,“Plot twist...just signed a 10 year residency at Camp Flog Gnaw sorry kids see you EVERY SINGLE YEAR till you are 30."
