Draymond Green Heralds Ex-Teammate As Second-Best Trash-Talker In NBA
KEY POINTS
- Draymond Green has no issues being labeled as the best trash talker in the NBA
- Green appoints Kevin Durant as second best
- The Warriors big man sacrificed his scoring for three years when Durant was his teammate
Modern-day NBA has got a lot of trash-talkers, but Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green is by far the best in getting inside his opponents’ heads.
Over the years, NBA fans have been entertained by players who are great at running their mouths inside the court.
In the past, Rasheed Wallace, Gary Payton and Kevin Garnett were among the best in the category. At present, that title belongs to Warriors’ Green.
Despite embracing the said recognition, Green is well aware that he’s not the only one. Apparently, his former Dubs teammate Kevin Durant is also up there.
"I think you started to realize it now with the more he talks on Twitter or the more he's caught saying stuff to fans in the stands, [it’s] KD [Kevin Durant],” Green said on the latest episode of "The Draymond Green Show" when discussing who’s the best trash-talker in the NBA after him.
Green further pointed out that most of the time when the former MVP exercises his gift of gab, they don’t have much to hit back with as they know he’s “Kevin Durant.”
“I've always told people KD is one of the biggest trash talkers to me since I came into the league," he stressed. "And it would be like disrespectful stuff, like 'Ay, who is this?' KD would turn the dude around like trying to look at the back of his jersey like to see the name on the back. K would say stuff to people and you're like, yo, you're Kevin Durant. There's not much I can say back.”
Just recently, Green made another interesting revelation about Durant.
It can be recalled that before "KD" joined the Warriors in 2016, Green was coming off his best-scoring season with the Dubs, averaging 14 points per outing.
Aware that with Durant coming in, the team’s offense will have a shakeup as Durants will surely be scoring in bunches.
Green said that he made the “decision” to take a step back and let the man do his thing on the offensive end.
“I made the decision right away that I would be the one to sacrifice shots – I didn’t want Klay Thompson doing that, I didn’t want Steph Curry doing that and I didn’t want Kevin [Durant] coming in, having to figure out how to play any other way than what he was comfortable playing,” the three-time All-Star confessed. “So that went on for three years.”
