Drew Barrymore Makes Rare Outing To Support Christian Siriano At New York Fashion Week
Drew Barrymore is usually hesitant to go out amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but she mustered enough courage to attend the New York Fashion Week to support her "new friend" Christian Siriano.
"This is rare for me to be out," she told E! News on Saturday as she gestured to the crowd. "I'm seeing everybody mask-less. I know everyone's... You know..."
Barrymore cut herself mid-sentence and explained, "If anyone else has mental gymnastics they need to do to be social, I empathize."
"It takes a lot of courage to start living normally," she added.
The "50 First Dates" actress said she stepped out of the house to support Siriano, whose Fall 2022 collection was showcased at the glamorous event.
"He has actually taken the time to build a friendship with me. I'm so honored because I have only old and few friends, and Christian is my new friend where he says, 'Let me take you out, get out of the house, come with me, let's do this.'"
The actress said Siriano encourages her to have fun, adding: "You need someone to encourage you, because I don't leave the house!"
Barrymore also told the outlet about her plans for her 47th birthday on Feb. 22. The actress said she prefers a simple celebration, which means quality time with her daughters Olive, 9, and Frankie, 7.
"I just told the girls I just want to have dinner with them. That's all I care about," Barrymore said, adding: "I don't care if it's on the couch watching Netflix with takeout food, or maybe we dare to go to a restaurant."
The actress then revealed she would also be hosting a special episode on her talk show on the day of her birthday.
Besides Barrymore, other celebs also attended Siriano's "Victorian Matrix" show at the Empire State Building. These stars included Alicia Silverstone, Danielle Brooks, Anika Noni, Susan Sarandon, Hannah Wadding ham and Anna Chlumsky.
Siriano called his collection "Victorian Matrix," alluding to pandemic restrictions. In the show notes, he wrote: "Some days feel like we are living in the Victorian era, while others feel like we're living in the Matrix."
Vanessa Friedman, fashion director and chief fashion critic at the New York Times, tweeted a clip taken during Siriano's show.
"Battle of the ballgowns at #ChristianSiriano #NYFW," Friedman noted.
