'Drew Barrymore Show' Criticized After Giving Couple A Surprise Wedding For This Reason

Drew Barrymore gave her guests a surprise wedding, but some of the audience had issues with the way the couple met and criticized her show.

On Friday's episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show," the host and crew gave their guests Dan and Selina a surprise wedding. Barrymore secretly worked with Dan and his family to surprise Selina with a wedding after the couple was forced to push back their big day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But some felt that the show should have featured a different couple instead because for them, their relationship started inappropriately since Selina was allegedly Dan’s underage student when they met.

"It would be a great story if it was actually true. They met ‘in school’ because she was his student. The mutual friends was the physics class he taught," one commented on the YouTube video in which Selina said they met through a mutual friend.

"Wow, 'We met in school through mutual friends' is a very creative way of saying your relationship started when he was your teacher in high school. Could CBS not find a couple whose relationship didn't begin completely inappropriately? I just hope he's more observant of his marriage vows than he was of the law when he started dating her," another wrote.

"Ok but it wasn’t mutual friends he was her teacher when she was still in highschool," another added.

Several users also commented on the surprise wedding on "The Drew Barrymore Show" on Twitter and they have mixed opinions about it. "Teachers can be wicked," one said. Meanwhile, another netizen thought there was not an issue about their relationship and decision to get married because they are grown ups.

"What’s the problem? They are both grown adults. What difference does it make how they met?" the netizen commented.

"One wasn't a grown adult when they started to date, the other exerted his authority. I think that's the problem," one replied.

Despite the backlash, some netizens support Barrymore and the couple. Several praised Dan as a Physics teacher. Many even said Dan was their favorite teacher and they were happy for him and his bride.

Went above and beyond for everyone, and I’m so happy to see this for them!! Wish them all the best!" Jordan Reid commented on the clip on YouTube.
