Netizens rallied on Twitter with #DrewBreesIsCancelled. A lot of them expressed their sentiments on the issue over the said social media platform with no holds barred.
Drew Brees, we don’t need your fake ass apology. Not like you said it 10 years ago, it was yesterday. And when you think of your grandfathers fighting for this country, who was forced to fight on their front lines and serve them after? #DrewBreesIsCancelled #blacklifematters pic.twitter.com/a2pAERR1Ey

Interesting that Drew Brees has this “nice” apology now but yesterday he was NOT deviating from his comments. When people SHOW you who they are...BELIEVE them! #DrewBreesIsCancelled

Drew Brees doesn’t want to see players kneeling during the national anthem.

We as a nation of black people don’t want to see our people dying at the knees, hands, guns of racist police.
Millions of people get it now, but you remain callous & insensitive.#DrewBreesIsCancelled

Brees addressed his apology to all his friends, teammates, New Orleans City, the black community, NFL community and anyone who was hurt following his remarks. He shared this statement via social media post, Independent reported.
I would like to apologize to my friends, teammates, the City of New Orleans, the black community, NFL community and anyone I hurt with my comments yesterday. In speaking with some of you, it breaks my heart to know… https://t.co/Jg36d0Ad0l

The New Orleans Saints quarterback said that his comments were “insensitive” and it “completely missed the mark” on the issue that people of the United States are facing at the moment. Brees considered those remarks as something that was lack of awareness and compassion or empathy.
Brees, toward the end of his social media post, clarified his standpoint. He said he’s with the black community against systemic racial injustice and police brutality. Brees also extended his support to the creation of real policy change that would make a difference.
If there was one thing he condemns, that would be the oppression that took over the black community. He also acknowledged that Americans, including himself, have not done enough to fight for equality.
Brees took full responsibility and accountability of what had transpired. The NFL star also clarified that he has always been an ally, not an enemy.
Brees, during his interview with Yahoo Finance, was asked how he thought NFL would respond to people possibly expecting the NFL players to kneel again when the new season starts and his responsibility as a leader in times like these —where many people are being outspoken and conducting demonstrations and protests on racism and equality.
Brees said he would never agree with anyone disrespecting the flag of the United States.
