Drinking water before every meal helps in weight loss shows trial
We have always known that water is good for us and good for fighting fat, but now there is research backing the idea, which says that if you drink two cups of water before every meal you can lose up to 5 pounds in three months.
In a clinical trial, whose reports are yet to be published , by Dr Brenda Davy, associate professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, Virginia found that participants who drank two cups of water before each meal lost an average of 5 pounds more weight than those who did not drink water before meals. Both the groups had a calorie controlled diet over a 12-week period. It was the first time such a randomized controlled trial was being conducted to find out how increasing water intake can help losing weight in a healthy way.
The trial proves that you can consume 75 to 80 calories less every meal if you drank water before eating your food. During the trial period one group drank two 8-ounce cups of water just before they started to eat each meal. Both groups ate the same low-calorie diet during the 12 weeks of the study. Over this period, the water drinkers lost an average of 15.5 pounds while the non-water drinkers lost 11 pounds. Dr Davy says that it is a good idea to substitute sugary drinks with water. A person of regular weight should have at least 10 cups of fluid every day to remain healthy.
