Driver Rapes Minor Runaway Girl On The Pretext Of Giving Her Work
A 32-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl he picked up from outside a railway station in New Delhi, India.
The girl had eloped with her boyfriend, who is also a minor, to New Delhi in order to secretly get married. The duo had reached the nation’s capital from the eastern Indian state of Bihar, and was in search of work.
After reaching the city, the minor couple boarded a tuk-tuk from outside the station and befriended the accused driver, Ravi Kumar.
In her police complaint, the girl said Kumar assured them that he will get them some work and invited them to visit his relative’s apartment in East Delhi, along with him.
“On August 27, they both reached New Delhi railway station, where they boarded an auto-rickshaw (tuk-tuk). They started talking with the accused, Ravi, and requested him to get them jobs,” the Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.
Kumar allegedly took the couple with him and engaged the boyfriend in some work. He then drove the girl to his apartment, where he allegedly raped her.
“After raping her, he threatened her with dire consequences and decided to drop her at the railway station. Before dropping her, he raped her again. He left them outside the railway station and managed to escape,” the police officer told the outlet.
The girl and her boyfriend then went to the railway station, where the victim recounted her ordeal. The victim also accused a second person, an associate of Kumar, identified as 30-year-old Sajan Mehto, of robbing her cellphone, reported ANI.
Police filed a report and started their investigation by scanning CCTV cameras at the station.
“The victim’s friend disclosed two-three digits of the auto-rickshaw, which helped the police identify it. The owner was approached and he said he hired Ravi. The police first arrested Mehto and then Ravi, who went to Bihar after the incident,” said an officer, reported the Indian Express. Kumar faces rape charges and Mehto has been charged with robbery.
Local police in Bihar have been informed about the runaway teens.
