A drunk Jet2 flight passenger whose erratic behavior on the plane caused one of her co-passengers to have a seizure has been jailed.

Kiran Jagdev, 41, of Caledine Road, Leicester, England, received a “deterrent sentence” of six months after the Crown Court heard her case of disorderly behavior during a flight from Tenerife, Spain, to East Midlands Airport (EMA), England. She was intoxicated at the time, having consumed between six and eight beers before boarding the plane and an additional four to six glasses of wine on board, Leicestershire Live reported Thursday.

Prosecutor Joey Kwong said Jagdev acted restless from the beginning, kicking the seat in front of her where an autistic girl was sitting with her parents. This caused flight attendants to change her seat, making her sit behind another passenger whose seat she continued to kick as well.

Despite being asked to stop kicking, Jagdev did not comply, causing the female passenger whose seat she was kicking to have a seizure.

After downing a number of glasses of wine, she “continued to ask cabin crew for a drink and they continued to refuse her and she was issued with an Air Navigation Order,” Kwong said. At having denied more alcohol, Jagdev retrieved her own bottle of alcohol from her carry-on luggage and continued to drink on the plane.

“An off-duty police officer then offered to sit next to her and assist cabin crew," Kwong said. “He said the conversation was initially pleasant, but then she began to touch him inappropriately and made vulgar remarks. The police officer refused her advances and she became abusive towards him."

Jagdev’s behavior escalated when the pilot of the Jet2 flight began circling the skies as he was unable to land at the EMA due to strong winds. She repeatedly started shouting, “we're all going to die" and kept getting up from her seat, trying to leave.

When the plane finally managed to land, she was removed by airport police and placed under arrest. Jagdev then abused the immigration staff.

Before giving her verdict, presiding judge Philip Head said: "When you boarded the plane in Tenerife to fly back to East Midlands Airport, you were drunk, so much so that you had to be helped into your seat. The effect you had on other passengers must have been dreadful, but the worst was yet to come.”

“As the pilot was unable to put the craft down on the approach, that triggered a further foul-mouthed tirade where you shouted 'we're all going to die' for about 10 minutes. It is not easy to contemplate the effect of what you were doing to other passengers in a stressful situation,” he added.

Later, after getting sober and being interviewed by the authorities, she described herself as "7/10 drunk” when she was on the plane and blamed flight crew for selling her more alcohol even after knowing that she was intoxicated. However, the judge said she could not pin her actions on anyone else.

"When you were sober in your police interview, you blamed the crew for selling you more alcohol, but I reject this. You are the author of your own and other people's misfortune. This was a dreadful experience for all those who were exposed to your behavior and it culminated when the landing was aborted,” Head said.

"This demands a deterrent sentence so people who travel by air and get drunk will know there are consequences,” he added. Jagdev pleaded guilty to the charges against her at the Leicester Magistrates' Court in August this year.
