Drunk Man Allegedly Raped Minor Daughter After Fight With Wife, Later Absconded

A man allegedly raped his 13-year-old daughter following a fight with his wife in the Indian state of Haryana.

The incident came to light after the victim’s mother filed a police complaint against the 39-year-old unidentified suspect Thursday. The man was charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) but he was absconding.

“On April 19, he [suspect] came home in an inebriated state and we had a fight. He hit my head with a bottle, but I escaped with an injury. He went to the terrace in a rage and later asked my daughter to serve him dinner. The next morning, my daughter told me that he had raped her. I confronted him but he ran away,” the victim’s mother told police.

"I tried calling him multiple times but he did not receive my calls. On Thursday, I called him again but he started threatening me, saying that he will assault our daughter again. So, finally I moved police," she added, local daily the Times of India reported.

Police said the man was an alcoholic and used to beat his wife and daughter regularly.

"The girl told her mother about the rape on April 20, but her mother filed a complaint on Thursday evening,” a police officer said, adding that the girl was rushed to a local hospital for a medical examination, where doctors confirmed the rape.

The officer added that the victim was given counseling by the police during which “the girl repeated her claims. After which we initiated raids to arrest her father.” “We hope that he will be arrested as soon as possible,” he added.

The victim was produced in a court Friday for recording her statement during which she repeated the claim that her father raped her. The investigation was ongoing.

In a similar incident in Haryana earlier this month, a man was arrested for raping his eight-year-old daughter for several months following his wife’s death. The incident came to light after one of the neighbors filed a police complaint after noticing changes in the girl’s behavior. The girl said her father had tortured and raped her several times after her mother’s death. The man was arrested and the victim was sent to children observation center for counseling.
