Drunk, 'Unruly' Passenger Urinates On Fellow Flyer Aboard American Airlines Flight
A drunk flyer allegedly urinated on a fellow passenger while traveling on an American Airlines flight from New York to New Delhi.
Flight 292, which took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, was on its way to New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport when the disruption happened. The accused, described as drunk and "unruly," was arrested after the flight landed in the Indian capital city Sunday, the New York Post reported.
The airline thanked its crew for showing "utmost professionalism" during the incident.
"American Airlines flight 292 with service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) was met by local law enforcement upon arrival in DEL due to a disruption on board," the airline said in a statement, NDTV reported.
"We're grateful to our crew members who are consistently dedicated to the safety and care of our customers and handled the circumstances with the utmost professionalism," it added.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India will investigate the incident.
"An allegedly inebriated passenger relieved himself on another passenger. American Airlines has recorded the statements of co-passengers and handed over the passenger to law enforcement agencies. An FIR has been lodged," a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation official said.
Some reports said the victim filed a complaint with the airline. However, police said they received no official complaint about someone urinating on them on the Delhi-bound flight.
"There was no corroborative evidence or complaint given by co-passengers regarding someone peeing on them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) Devesh Kumar Mahla said.
This is the third incident of an air traveler urinating on a fellow passenger on a flight between New York and Delhi in the last six months.
A passenger seated in business class relieved himself on a 70-year-old woman aboard an Air India flight on Nov. 26. He was then banned from traveling with the airline for 30 days.
Another incident was reported last month after a drunk student, aged 21, urinated on a business-class passenger while traveling on American Airlines Flight 292 from New York to Delhi. The student, Aryan Vohra, was "heavily intoxicated" and endangered the safety of crew and passengers before he "finally urinated on a passenger," American Airlines said. Vohra was arrested after the flight landed in New Delhi.
