Drunk Woman Drives Down Stairs At Police Department, Claims She Was Following GPS
An intoxicated woman in Maine tried to drive her SUV down a flight of stairs at a police station and then blamed technology for the blunder.
The 26-year-old driver, whose identity was not revealed, was reportedly drunk when she drove through the police department’s garage. She only stopped her car after nose-diving down a flight of stairs, cops said Saturday in a Facebook post.
The Portland Maine Police Department said the woman claimed she tried to drive down the steps because her GPS instructed her to do so, according to Miami Herald.
The woman was eventually found with a significant amount of alcohol in her system, cops said.
The Portland Maine Police Department shared pictures of the incident on social media and took the opportunity to remind people not to take the wheel when intoxicated.
The woman “drove through the Police Department garage, across our pedestrian plaza and then tried to drive down the stairs to Middle Street,” the police department said in the post. “She said she was following her GPS instructions but responding officers felt it was her excessive blood alcohol level.”
Cops said the woman was issued a summons for OUI (Operating under Influence of drugs or alcohol), according to moneycontrol.com.
“We are fortunate that she didn't strike anyone and this ended with just a small amount of property damage,” the police added. “Please don't drink and drive.”
The pictures posted online were shared more than 1,800 times on Facebook and received several comments from surprised netizens.
“I’ve been very drunk before but never 'drive through the police department' drunk,” one comment said. “I hope she gets the help she needs and soon. I'm glad no one was hurt,” said another comment.
Many netizens joked about the GPS taking the drunk woman to the right place for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Perhaps her GPS knew she was drunk and figured it would bring her where she needed to be, rather than where she wanted to be,” one Facebook user said.
“At least that's one less call for dispatch. Drive through arrests certainly streamline the process,” another added.
Another said, “I wish all GPS would navigate drunk drivers to jail.”
