Dubai, home of the world's tallest building, is aiming for another superlative in its cityscape: the world's largest mall and indoor park. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, ruler of Dubai and vice president of the United Arab Emirates, announced plans for the new "Mall of the World" at a press conference this week.

The project in UAE's most populous city, where the average temperature is about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, will result in a 48 million-square-foot, climate-controlled complex under a glass dome that will include an 8 million-square-foot shopping mall, a Broadway-style cultural district and the largest indoor family theme park in the world. Hotel facilities and a wellness district will round out the indoor pedestrian city. Once the project is completed, developer Dubai Holding expects it to attract 180 million visitors each year.

Plans include a cultural district that will serve as the hub for national and multinational cultural festivities. Celebration Walk, a walkway similar to Barcelona's Ramblas Street, will connect the cultural district to the rest of the mall. Dubai Holding
