"Duck Dynasty" star Bella Robertson explained her decision to tie the knot with her fiancé Jacob Mayo after announcing their engagement last month.

Robertson, 18, announced her engagement to Mayo just six months after they started dating. Her family was supportive of her decision, but there were many critics who told her she was still too young to marry. Robertson addressed those who are against her plan to marry soon in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight.

"First off, we've been friends for a long time," she told ET.

"I think a lot of people want to say, like, 'Oh my gosh, they've only been dating for six months.' But we have known each other for so long. And since quarantine is like dog years, we've been in quarantine the whole time we've been dating and we're together all the time."

Robertson didn't think she would be engaged to someone she’s known for six months. She said "yes" to Mayo because she knew her long before that. Also, she pointed out that many in their family got married when they were 18.

"We started dating because he came home from college to be here for quarantine, and that's been a big factor. I don't know if normally I would have gotten engaged to someone after six months, if we would have just met and started dating, you know?" she continued.

"But on top of that, in the south so many people get married so young. Like, my parents got married at 18, my brother got married at 18, my grandparents married at 18. It's very common around here so it didn't really shock me too much about my age."

Robertson announced her engagement to Mayo in November. She admitted that she felt his proposal would be happening soon before he even popped the question because her mom asked her if Mayo already talked to her about their conversation, which she wasn't aware of at the time. Apparently, he already asked her hand in marriage but didn’t inform her. Also, she had no clue about the ring he chose, so it was a surprise for her.
