Dutch cease contact with Iran after execution of woman
The government of The Netherlands has ceased all contact with Iran following the hanging of a Dutch woman of Iranian descent.
This concerns all official contacts between diplomats and civil servants, Dutch government spokesman Bengt van Loosdrecht told the Agence France Presse news agency.
The foreign ministry of Holland said it was shocked, shattered by this act by a barbaric regime.
46-year-old Sahra Bahrami was hanged for drug smuggling early on Saturday, Iranian officials said. However, her family claims she was railroaded against her she was detained for participating in anti-government protests in 2009. Bahrami had been jailed for one year after her arrest. She visited Iran to see relatives.
Iranian officials stated that a search of her house uncovered 450 grams of cocaine and 420 grams of opium.
Bahrami's daughter was quoted as telling the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that the drug charges were fabricated.
She doesn't even smoke cigarettes, let alone possessing drugs. How could someone who participates in election gatherings and endangers her life, engage in such actions against her country? she is quoted as saying.
Bahrami had been jailed for one year after her arrest. She visited Iran to see relatives.

I am bewildered as to how my client's death sentence was issued while her security charges had not yet been reviewed, said Bahrami’s attorney Jinoos Sharif.
