Dutch DJ Martin Garrix 'Forced' To Cancel Shows, Why?
DJ Martin Garrix was forced to cancel all of his upcoming shows. He revealed the news in a press statement shared to his social media.
On Instagram, the Dutch DJ shared a photo of himself seated with crutches leaning against the back of a chair. His leg is elevated and appeared to be in a boot in the shot.
"It is with deepest regrets that Martin Garrix has to announce that he is forced to cancel all his shows the coming weeks," the caption reads. It goes on to explain that the cancellations are the result of "a serious ankle injury" he received during a show in Las Vegas on May 25.
Garrix expressed his devastation in the same caption, saying, "I’m devastated that I have to cancel these shows since nothing makes me happier than performing for you guys."
"I feel most alive when I'm on stage, seeing you guys smile," he continued. "I was really looking forward to it and I never want to disappoint my fans. Unfortunately, this is out of my control and I will need a surgery and enough rest to fully recover. If I won’t get surgery now I might permanently damage my ankle, which could mean I won’t be able to perform at all anymore. I want to thank everyone for their continuous support and I hope to be able to get back on stage to perform for you guys again really soon.’’
Garrix sustained the injury while performing at Omnia Nightclub inside of the Las Vegas Caesar Palace Hotel where he currently has residency. Garrix hurt his ankle after jumping off of the stage during his set. Cultr reports that the DJ tried to continue but ultimately had to cut the performance short, having an ambulance transport him to the hospital.
According to Billboard, there is no word yet about make-up shows.
Martin Garrix gained mainstream notoriety with his hit single "Animals". The song's success then allowed the producer many opportunities to work with the music industry's hottest musicians. Garrix has collaborated with top artists such as Ed Sheeran, Bebe Rexha, Selena Gomez and Dual Lipa, to name a few. He's also been ranked the number one DJ for the last three years (2016, 2017, and 2018) by DJ Mag.
