Off-Duty Female NYPD Officer Shoots Ex-Girlfriend, Kills Another Woman In Suspected Love Triangle

An off-duty female police officer has been arrested for shooting her former girlfriend and killing another woman, who is suspected to be her ex's new lover, inside an apartment in New York.

Yvonne Wu, a 31-year-old New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, was inside the Bensonhurst, Brooklyn apartment of her 23-year-old ex-girlfriend, identified as Jenny Li, when the incident took place shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday. She allegedly opened fire at Li and her suspected lover, identified as 24-year-old Jamie Liang, when the two victims arrived at the residence.

Li managed to call 911. According to NY Daily News, during the call, the operator heard someone in the background saying, "That's what you get."

When the responding officers arrived on the property, they saw Wu standing outside.

"I would describe her as calm, collected and very forthcoming," Assistant Chief Michael Kemper said as per NY Daily News.

"Simply put, she confessed. That's all I'm going to say," Kemper noted when asked what Wu told the responding cops.

Officers found Li on the bedroom floor with one gunshot wound in the torso. Liang, on the other hand, was discovered on the living room floor with at least one gunshot wound in the chest.

The shooting victims and Wu were taken to a hospital. Liang succumbed to her injury while Li is expected to survive.

Wu, who has been working for the NYPD for 5 and a half years, was then taken into custody. Charges against her were pending. It was unclear if she used her service weapon in the shooting.

"I saw them put the woman in the car that they arrested and she seemed very calm, it was strange, it seemed like it was from a different scenario, you know she just seemed so peaceful, we weren't," eyewitness Valerie Wares told WABC-TV.

Theresa DiGirolamo, who lives on the same block, told the outlet she heard what sounded like paper-bag popping multiple times and then medics arriving at the scene.

Wu and Li lived together in Bay Ridge until their split about a month ago, according to a friend of Liang.

"She [Wu] was possessive. Jenny Li just couldn't take it anymore. This cop is a psychopath. She was stalking her ex for a month," the friend told NY Daily News. "She did not walk into her ex and her lover. She was intruding her ex's house without consent. She was trespassing."
