  • Dwayne Johnson said he, his wife Lauren Hashian and two daughters tested positive for the coronavirus
  • The actor and his family have recovered and are no longer contagious, he said
  • Johnson said they contracted COVID-19 from close family friends

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed that he and his family tested positive for coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Johnson said in an Instagram video that he, wife Lauren Hashian and their two daughters, Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2, contracted the virus, describing the ordeal as “one of the most challenging things” that they have had to go through as a family.

Johnson and his family are, thankfully, out of the woods and are not contagious anymore, the 48-year-old actor said.

As for how they contracted COVID-19, the “Jumanji” star said that despite taking safety precautions, he and his family got it from “very close family friends” who didn’t have an inkling that they were carriers.

Johnson also detailed how this battle was strikingly different from his previous experiences as a wrestler.

“Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times,” he explained.

The former WWE superstar said that his family contracting the coronavirus was so different “because my No.1 priority is to always protect my family. And protect my children, my loved ones.”

“I wish it was only me who tested positive but it wasn’t. It was my entire family. So this one is really a kick in the gut,” Johnson shared.

After falling sick, his kids had sore throats for a few days, but it was him and his singer wife who really had “a rough going.”

This became a lesson for Johnson, who vowed to practice “even greater discipline” moving forward. This involves asking anyone visiting their house to get tested for COVID-19 first.

Johnson also underscored the importance of wearing a mask, which he said is “the right thing to do,” and expressed his confusion about how people can turn this safety measure into a political debate.

“I'm not a politician. I am a man though, who cares about my family deeply and will do everything I can to protect them. But I'm also a man who cares about all of you guys,” he said. “I don't care what political party you're affiliated with. I don't care what part of the world you're from. I don't care what your skin color is, what your job is, what your bank account says. I don't care. I do care about all of them. And I do not want you or your entire family to get COVID-19.”

“Use me as your example,” Johnson concluded his 11-minute Instagram video. “Remember these takeaways that I shared with you and stay healthy, my friends, and I'll see you down the road.”

Aside from Johnson, celebrities who tested positive for the coronavirus over the past months include Tom Hanks, Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston, Antonio Banderas and Pink, among many others.
