  • Dwayne Johnson shared on Instagram a poll that suggests nearly half of Americans want to see him run for president
  • He said it was "humbling" to know that many would support him if he ran for office
  • Johnson said it would be his "honor" to serve the American people

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has responded to a poll that suggests nearly half of Americans want to see him run for president.

On Saturday, the "Black Adam" star, 48, took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an article that said, "At least 46 percent of Americans would support a presidential run from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson," citing a new poll. In the caption of the post, the former wrestler said he was humbled and honored by the results of the survey.

"Humbling," Johnson wrote. "I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club - but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people."

Further proving his popularity, Johnson's post has received over 5 million likes, along with thousands of supportive messages.

"The People’s President," Ryan Ochoa commented. "The People’s Champ," Brobible added.

"Dude, you’re smart and a decent man- that’s all we want," one fan commented.

"I'm not even American and I'm saying PLEASE DO IT!!" another user wrote.

The poll, which was conducted by Piplsay earlier this month, asked 30,138 people aged 18 and older about their take on celebrities who may be interested in politics.

The survey found that 29% would support Johnson's campaign for president and Matthew McConaughey's run for Texas governor. Another 17% would support Johnson's presidential bid only.

Other celebrities whose potential presidential runs received massive support among poll respondents include Angelina Jolie (30%), Oprah Winfrey (27%) and Tom Hanks (22%).

Johnson has been floating the idea of running for president for years now. In 2017, a year after the Washington Post published an op-ed piece that supported him as a viable candidate, he told GQ that a run for office was "a real possibility."

In the same year, Johnson told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show that he was "seriously" considering a political career and suggested in an interview with Variety that the 2024 election was a "realistic" timeframe for him to launch a presidential bid.

Johnson once more addressed his comments during an interview with USA Today in February.

"I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted," the actor said. "Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people ... So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground."

Johnson is currently filming the DC movie "Black Adam," which is set to be hit theaters in July 2022.
