Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Net Worth: WWE Star, Actor Is Hollywood's Biggest Earner
When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson began training to become a WWE superstar, he barely had a dollar to his name. As he celebrates his 45th birthday two decades later, The Rock is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars with a reported net worth in the eight figures.
“Thank you guys so much for the mornin' birthday wishes. Another year.. Im a lucky SOB. Now get out there and have a productive day,” The Rock tweeted Tuesday morning.
The Rock certainly achieved his goal, and he is far from broke in 2017. A year ago, Forbes listed The Rock as Hollywood’s highest-paid actor, having earned an estimated $64.5 million. That figure more than doubled his previous year’s earnings as he continues to star in hit movies.
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that The Rock is worth $190 million, though it’s unknown if that figure is close to being accurate.
Just four months into 2017, this year could turn out to be the biggest of The Rock’s career. “The Fate of The Furious” is already is the fifth-highest grossing movie of his career, having earned more than $193 million since it hit the big screen on April 14. With “Baywatch” set to come out on May 25 and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” scheduled for a December release, The Rock could have two more hits on his hands this year.
“Furious 7” is his highest-grossing film of all time, making more than $353 million in 2015. The animated film “Moana” made nearly $250 million after it was released on Nov. 23, 2016.
Of course, The Rock didn’t become an overnight success in Hollywood. He starred in his first movie 15 years ago when “The Scorpion King” made more than $91 million. The Rock was reportedly paid $5.5 million, the most ever for someone starring in their first film. It took him another six years to land a role in a movie that would earn at least $100 million.
Just a few years earlier, The Rock was trying to be a professional wrestler like his father and grandfather before him. Starting his journey with nothing, The Rock became a mega-star with a charisma that few WWE stars have ever had.
“In 1995 I had $7 bucks in my pocket and knew two things: I was broke as hell and one day I won't be. You can achieve anything,” The Rock said in a 2011 Facebook post.
The Rock made his WWE debut in 1996. By 1998, he was one of the biggest stars in the company, and he headlined WrestleMania 15 against Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1999. He fought in the main event of the show for three consecutive years, eventually leaving WWE in 2004.
The Rock returned to the company on a part-time basis in 2011 as the host of WrestleMania 27. He had matches with John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 29, likely earning millions for his return.
The Rock wrestled five total matches between November 2011 and April 2013, and it’s unknown if his in-ring career is over for good.
