Ahead of the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 30 finale, judge Derek Hough revealed that he recently tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.
The 36-year-old professional dancer and actor took to Instagram Tuesday to reveal that he’s contracted a breakthrough case of COVID-19. He went on to say that he is currently isolating ahead of the ABC show’s finale.
“Even though I’ve been fully vaccinated, I’ve just been diagnosed with a breakthrough case of COVID. I just found out and I feel OK. I feel strong,” Hough said in the clip he uploaded.
The ballroom dancer added that he’s been taking advice from medical professionals, so he could get better as fast as he can. To prevent the spread of the virus, Hough said he’s “currently in quarantine.“
The “Make Your Move” star promised his fans that he’ll keep them updated as much as possible. He then urged them to stay safe amid the pandemic.
In the caption to his post, Hough indicated that his “No Limit” shows in Las Vegas for this week have been rescheduled for a later date. He said he’ll be announcing the new dates soon.
Hough has been busy going back and forth from Los Angeles to Las Vegas due to his participation in the competition and his Las Vegas residency that kicked off in late September.
Unfortunately, Hough did not share his plans for next week’s “DWTS” finale in his Instagram post. It can be noted that earlier in the season, he was absent from week 3 after being exposed to the virus. Fortunately, he did not test positive at the time and was able to return the following week, according to Entertainment Weekly.
There’s still no word if anyone else on the show was affected by the issue, or if the finale will be affected by his diagnosis.
Hough’s breakthrough case comes after contestant Cody Rigsby and dance partner Cheryl Burke came down with the virus earlier this year. The pair even had to skip performing on the set and instead danced their Britney Spears-themed number virtually, as pointed out by Us Weekly.
“Dancing With The Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
