‘Dying Light’ Dev Says New Enemies, Mysteries & More Coming In Next 12 Months
“Dying Light” developer Techland has announced that more free content will be released for its very successful game. Get more details below.
“Dying Light” was released on Jan. 27, 2015, yet the open world first person survival horror action-adventure game continues to gather an estimated 500,000 people every week. Such success is so remarkable that its developer has decided to continue releasing free content for the game.
Upcoming DLC Announcement
Just recently, Techland published a video update on the official “Dying Light” YouTube channel to announce the exciting news to fans. Apparently, the developer is working on loads of new content that it is releasing 10 DLC packs in the next 12 months. “Seeing your enthusiasm, we’re excited to announce our continuous support for ‘Dying Light,’” game producer Tymon Smektala says in the clip. “In the next 12 months, we will give you 10 pieces of original new content.”
Free Content Teased So Far
According to Smektala, fans can expect new challenging enemies to arrive soon. No only that, the team is also preparing to introduce new mysteries in the game. There’s also mention of new in-game events. So much more is in store, and Techland is going to launch all new and original content in the span of a year. The best part of course is the fact that everything will be up for free, and they will come to all supported platforms — PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (Windows and Linux).

It appears the first content that will be on the way will contain new enemies. Smektala has said that they will soon release a content drop showcasing new enemies, so it won’t come as a surprise if the first DLC will introduce new adversaries. GameSpot has learned that the first content drop is arriving “in the coming weeks.” It’s very likely for the developer to release more details about it later this week or next week.
Primary Reason Behind New Content
Smektala has explained why they are coming up with new content for the game. The primary reason for this move has to do with the consistent number of regular “Dying Light” players. Although there’s been a dip from the 700,000 people per week following its launch, the 500,000 people per week figure at present is more than enough to prove that the game is still hot and popular among fans.
“Can you believe it’s been almost three years since we released the original ‘Dying Light’? Back then about 700,000 people played our game weekly. But even now it’s still half a million every single week. This shows that our community is still huge, active and craving for more,” Smektala said.
Feedback & Suggestions
Techland is doing its best to maintain the player-retention rate of “Dying Light.” Thus, it is reaching out to fans and asking them for feedback and suggestions. “We’re also listening very closely to your thoughts and ideas, so please don’t hesitate to contact us and tell us what you want to see in the game,” Smektala said.
Fan feedback will help Techland in tweaking the gameplay and balancing the game. The team is quite serious in involving its fans in the development of the game that it is launching a dedicated community platform soon. According to the developer, this platform will help fans influence the content that will be added into the game in the near future.
“Dying Light” Sequel
Eurogamer believes that all this effort Techland is exerting in improving and maintaining “Dying Light” could be hinting at a sequel. For the record, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding a sequel, but the gaming news site is firmly claiming that the unnamed game being developed at Techland’s studio in Wroclaw could be none other than “Dying Light 2.”
