Dyson Patent Reveals Headphones That Will Double Up As Air Purifiers

Dyson’s new patent revealed something that seems kind of unbelievable. The company designed a pair of headphones, which double up as air purifiers.

Specifically, the headphones will purify the air around your face.

In a patent filed in the U.K., that was sighted by Bloomberg Tuesday, the vacuum company listed a pair of headphones that will have air filters built into the ear cups. Along with these air filters, the headphones will also have a band that can fold down and go to the user’s mouth. It will act as an air pump, which would send purified air into the mouth and provide a user relief from the polluted air around.

“Air pollution is an increasing problem and a variety of air pollutants have known or suspected harmful effects on human health,” the patent stated.

The company first revealed the concept of creating a wearable air purifier in 2018.

“We’re constantly creating disruptive solutions to problems, which means we file a lot of patents,” the company stated to Bloomberg at the time.

The headphone cups have propellers inside that will move at 12,000 rotations per minute and, as per the patent, can filter 1.4 liters of air per second ­­–- an adult, on average, breathes 10-11 liters of air per minute. This purified air is, then, transported to the band, which has a mouthpiece through which the user can take it in.

It may be helpful if you are living in a polluted environment, especially in China and India, which are among Dyson’s biggest markets for its air purifiers.

It may be an alternative to wearing a surgical mask, especially in smoggy weather. Maybe, a good one for China, which is suffering from the Coronavirus outbreak currently. However, the company has yet to comment if it is actually working on such as device or if it will be limited to the patent only.
