A newly-released deposition has revealed more details about how former President Donald Trump allegedly raped writer E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s.

Carroll first publicly accused Trump of raping her in the dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in the fall of 1995 or spring of 1996 in her memoir What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal. In November 2022, Carroll sued Trump for the alleged assault under New York's Adult Survivors Act.

Carroll was deposed by Trump's attorney Alina Habba in October. Her legal team released a portion of the pretrial deposition Tuesday.

In her deposition, Carroll said she ran into Trump in the luxury clothing store one evening, adding that Trump called her the "advice lady" when they met.

"I said something like 'Hey, you're that real estate tycoon,'" Carroll said in her deposition.

The writer noted that Trump stopped her from heading out the store's revolving door and asked her for advice on a gift for a "girl." While the two were perusing handbags and hats, Trump asked her age and she said she was 52.

"You're so old," she recalled Trump replying.

Trump later suggested they look at the lingerie section, which was empty of people besides themselves. He picked up a lace bodysuit and told Carroll to try it on. She responded by asking him to try it on instead, initially thinking they were just joking around.

The former president later gestured for her to step into one of the dressing rooms and then slammed the door closed and pushed her up against the wall, causing her to hit her head.

"I stepped into the room, the door was banged closed and he pushed me up against the wall," Carroll said in the newly-released deposition excerpt. "I felt his fingers rummaging around my vagina and this huge weight against me. My head hurt, this huge weight. I'm in a situation where I can't — I can't — at one point I remember saying, 'This is Donald Trump, what the heck is going on?' And then I felt his penis inside of me."

Carroll noted that the whole incident was "very brief," adding that she was quickly able to push him off of her and escape. Carroll is one of at least 26 women who have accused Trump of sexual misconduct.
